In 1967, the citizens of Concord voted to establish an ABC Board in the City and our first store opened in that same year. Although members of the Board are appointed by the Mayor of Concord, the Board is an independent political subdivision of the State of North Carolina.
Local ABC law enforcement is provided by a contract with the City of Concord Police Department. The State ABC Commission supplements local ABC law enforcement activities through Alcohol Law Enforcement (ALE) officers. NC General Statue 18-B-805(c) requires that all Boards distribute at least 5% of profits from sales for law enforcement and at least 7% of the profits for alcohol education and rehabilitation.
