FAQ

What does ABC mean?
ABC is an acronym for Alcoholic Beverage Control.
Are ABC employees state, county or city employees?
No. Concord ABC employees are employed by the Concord ABC Board which is an entity of the Local Government System. The stores are self-supporting. No tax money is used for payroll, or other expenses, including liquor shipments, for the ABC operation.
What are Acceptable Forms of ID?
It is the responsibility of the customer to prove that they are 21 years of age. The forms of ID acceptable in Concord ABC Stores include:

  • A valid driver’s license
  • A valid North Carolina State ID card (no other State ID cards are acceptable)
  • A valid passport
  • A valid U.S. Military ID
What are Acceptable Forms of payment?
All retail locations accept cash, debit and major credit cards.

Mixed Beverage Permittees, please refer to Mixed Beverages.

What is the Credit/Debit Card Policy?
A form of ID proving ownership of the card is required for all non-cash purchases. This is due to the increase of credit/debit card fraud.

We do not permit the use of another person’s card.

Can I return or exchange after purchasing?
Once a product has left the store no returns or exchanges can be made unless the product is spoiled or not drinkable. In this case, we will accept nearly full containers and provide a replacement.
When do I need a Transportation Permit?
In accordance with North Carolina ABC laws, a customer many only purchase up to eight (8) liters of distilled spirits from our stores without a transportation permit. With a transportation permit, the customer may purchase up to forty (40) liters of alcohol and subsequently transport their purchase within the State of North Carolina. A transportation permit is issued free of charge at the store, and is valid until 9:30 P.M. on the date of issue.
Where can I find closing and delays due to inclement weather?
In the event a delay or closing is necessary, please refer to these sources for information:

  • TV Station WSTP channel 3
  • TV Station WSOC channel 9
  • Call the office at (704) 787-9453.
Do we accept gift cards?
We do not accept VISA-MasterCard-Discover-American Express or any bank issued gift cards. The only gift cards accepted are those issued by Concord ABC Board.
If I have a valid form of identification but the person with me does not, can I make the purchase?
No, we do not sell to anyone in a party unless all persons in the group have a valid form of ID and are 21 years of age or older.
